Shoe care guide

Shoes are a precious investment for any heels dancer. To ensure their longevity, regular and careful maintenance is essential. Here is a practical guide to help you take care of your Joheela shoes.

Ventilation after class:

  • After each dance session, it's essential to let your shoes air out. Avoid leaving them stored in a bag or a closed box for too long. When you get home, take them out of their carrying bag to air them out.

  • Place them in a dry, well-ventilated area to eliminate humidity and prevent unpleasant odors.

Washing and care of insoles and fabrics:

  • Machine washing is not recommended, as it may damage the shoes: the reinforcements may soften and the insoles may become too soaked to dry completely. Your shoes need gentleness, so we advise you to clean them by hand with love!

  • We recommend cleaning your shoes with a soft sponge or damp soft cloth with a little mild soap or detergent. Then rinse with a soft sponge or damp soft cloth to remove any excess soap. Remember: moisture is the enemy of your shoes! So don't use too much water, and let your shoes air out well after cleaning until they're completely dry.

  • To remove unpleasant odors, you can spray a mixture of water and white vinegar, or water and essential oil (or a mixture of all three) on the insole and lining of your shoes. You can also apply this mixture to a soft cloth and rub it on the insole and lining of your shoes. Make sure to air the shoes well to let them dry. You can also leave a cloth or handkerchief with essential oil inside your shoes when you are not using them. Before use, make sure that the essential oil of your choice is safe for skin contact, and that it does not cause you any irritation or allergy.

  • For glitter styles, avoid rubbing the glitters and focus more on cleaning the inside of the shoes where the bad odors are located, rather than the outside.

Outsole care:

You can also clean the outsoles of your shoes, which sometimes collect a lot of dust and dirt from dance floors:

  • For all floors outsoles: you can clean them with a damp sponge and a little soap to remove embedded dust and dirt, thus recovering a clean sole whose surface will be more in contact with the floor.

  • For suede soles: above all, don't clean them with water! This could damage them. You can, however, brush them with a suede sole brush with metal or silicone bristles. This will remove dirt embedded in the fibers and restore proper grip. Suede soles encrusted with dust and dirt become more slippery, so we recommend brushing suede soles regularly to restore their initial grip.

It's not uncommon for the sole to come unstuck over time due to the intensive use to which they are subjected. In this case, we strongly recommend that you visit a shoemaker to have the sole re-glued.

Maintenance of heel tips:

  • Although our shoes are designed to adapt to a variety of surfaces such as hardwood floors, linoleum and smooth surfaces, the heel tip can wear out more quickly on slightly rough surfaces.

  • Wear of the heel tips is unfortunately a common and inevitable phenomenon, depending on factors such as the frequency of use of the shoes, and the type of floor you dance on. Wear and tear can also occur more quickly if you frequently do floorwork or movements that regularly involve the heel rubbing against the floor.

  • In cases where the heel tip is worn and the metal part is visible, we recommend having it replaced by a cobbler.

  • Silicone protective caps can be useful for extending the life of your heel tips. Choose caps that are suited to the size and shape of your heels. These caps protect against wear, prolonging the life of your heels.
